Paulina TALBOT (1837?-1903)

RiD No.: 732

Personal Details

Birth 1837 (approx.) Suffolk
Paulina's birth date is approximated from census returns. The 1841 census taken in St Matthews Parish, Ipswich, shows "born in this county" and the 1861 census shows her as being 24, therefore born approximately 1837.

I am assuming that she was born before compulsory registration as I have been unable to find an enrty for her in the BMD index.
Census 1841 (age 3-4)
St Matthews Street, Ipswich
The following is a transcript of the 1841 census return for John Talbot (snr) and his family. The original has not been examined and this may account for the apparent discrepancy in the ages/birth dates for John and Mary?

The death of a Paulina Spall is registered in Sheffield in September quarter 1903, She is shown age 66. This age ties in with her age stated in the 1860 census but not 1881 and 1901. There is also no link to the Sheffield area. Further investigation is required.

Marriage and Family Details

Spouse Wesley Giles SPALL (1842-1920)
Marriage Q1 1863 (age 25-26) Ipswich, Suffolk
Census (family) 1881 (age 43-44)
164, Trafalgar Street, Newington
The 1881 census shows Wesley as a Stationary Engine Driver, Age 39 (b1842) and Pamela age 40 (b 1841).

Pamala's age does not tie in with the 1861 census return. This may be an error in completing the census return or an error in transcription.
Census (family) 1901 (age 63-64)
86, Bridge Street, Sheffield
In the 1901 census, Wesley is shown aged 56, with his occupation as a "Caretaker for an engineering office",
Paulina is shown aged 60 with her occupation as a "Char Woman for engineering office".

Paulina's age ties in with the 1991 census but not with the 1861?
