George ROBINSON (1847-bef1924)

RiD No.: 701

Personal Details

Birth before 25th December 1847 Langton by Horncastle, Lincolnshire
Later census returns, which George would have been responsible for, show George born in Kirkstead but the Kirkstead PR's do not show any baptism for George between 1846 and 1855. The 1851 census, which would have been the responsibility of George's father, shows George born in Langton and the 1861 shows born in Laughton (which could be a transcription error?). The 1861 census shows him, and other family members, born in Yorkshire!
A transcription on FamilySearch shows a George Robinson christened on the 25th December 1847 in Langton by Horncastle with his father as Samuel Robinson and his mother as Ann Robinson, which ties in with the 1851 and 1861 census returns. This birth date is therefore used with the proviso that the original documentation still needs to be checked.

Census 1851 (age 3-4)
He was living with parents and sibling Cornelius at Mill Lane, Langton. George is shown born in Langton, Lincs.
Census 1861 (age 13-14)
This census shows George was born in Layston (Yorkshire?). There does not appear to be a Layston in Lincolnshire, so I am assuming that this is an enumerator or transcriber error until I can view the original return. The 1861 census transcript reads as follows:

ROBINSON, Saml Wm Head Married M 39 1822 Carpenter Mareham on the Hill, Yorkshire, England
ROBINSON, Ann Wife Married F 42 1819 Thorndon, Yorkshire, England
ROBINSON, George Son Unmarried M 13 1848 Scholar Layston, Yorkshire, England

Death 1922 (age 74-75)?
We know George was alive at the time of the 1911 census and that he had died prior to his son Joseph's marriage in 1924. A possible death registration for George is in June quarter 1922 in Southwark age 74, but the registration certificate has not yet been examined.
