Other Details

William (Bill) was my paternal grandfather, and I remember him, and my grandmother Lillian (Lill), fondly.
William and Lillian lived nearly all their married life in a tenement block called Falmouth Chambers, which was in Falmouth Road, London SE1, only a stones throw from the "Elephant and Castle", more about which can be found HERE. The block has long since been demolished and the area redeveloped. The site of the flats is now a public open space. Later in life they relocated into a council house (with a garden!) in Braintree, Essex in order to live nearer to my parents.

William started work nine days before his 15th birthday as a Factory Hand with an abrasive paper manufacturer, John Oakey and Sons Ltd (Est 1883) and worked for the company for 45 years before being made redundant in 1964. See the reference letter above.
