The marriage between Esther P Shirlaw and Edmund H C Abbott was registered in Woolwich in December quarter 1936 Esther P is assumed to be Esther Pascal and Edmund H C s presumed to be Edmund Henry Cook. No children have been identified from this marriage. |
The following was found on Ebay following a trawl of Google for the name "Cook-Abbott". When refreshed, the page did not reappear indicating the item had been sold.
"Item Condition EF = Extremely Fine and falling just short of Mint.
An Imperial Service Medal (EiiR), to a recipient with an unusual occupation. The medal is correctly impressed 'EDMUND HENRY COOK-ABBOTT', and is confirmed in the L.G. 09/08/1968 (p.8746) under the heading 'Ministry of Defence (Army)'; occupation given as 'Experimental Worker III'. Worthy of further research. No ribbon. Buyer to cover p&p."
This is supported by an entry in a Supplement to the London Gazette dated 9th August 1968 (page 8746) in which there is the following entry in the section detailing awards which simply reads " COOK-ABBOTT, Edmund Henry, Experimental Worker III."
This information is worthy of further investigation. As Edmund and Esther appear not to have had children, there were no descendants for the medal to pass too. I can only hope that it has been purchased by, or remains with a family member.
