| The Thorndon parish register shows the baptism of an Eliza Abbot on the 22nd
January 1829. Her actual birth date still to be confirmed. There is an anomoly here, as according to the National Burial Index, Eliza and Maria's father, John, was buried on the 7th December 1826 and the christening record of Maria shows that her father was deceased, but this is not mentioned in Eliza's baptism. My thinking is that John would have died in early December 1826 to have been buried on the 7th, and it is possible that Mary was pregnant with Maria at that time, and that Maria was born and subsiquently christened in May 1827, thus accounting for the reference to John being deceased, For Eliza to have been christened almost 2 years later in 1829 must mean that (i) either she was born before Maria and her father's death but for some reason was not christened at the time (but if this were the case, why was she not christened at the same time as Maria). If the 1851 census information is correct then Eliza could have been born in 1826 before her father's death? or (ii) she was conceived after John's death or (iii) she is not in fact part of this family. Further investigation is required. |

| Cock St Green, Depwade, Norfolk A find on web page " http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lostfound/ABBOTTS.htm" shows an Eliza Abbott aged 25, unmarried, born Thorndon as a house servant living at Cock St Green, Depwade, Norfolk in 1851. It is not yet confirmed that this is the "correct" Eliza as her age does not immediately tie in with her birth / christening date. |
