The original return has not yet been inspected, and unfortunately relying on this transcript only gives rise to some queries.

(i) Margaret Vincent age 0 cannot be a daughter-in-law. I am assuming therefore that she is a granddaughter to Henry and Mary and the possible daughter of Margaret Vincent age 19.
(ii) 19 year old Margaret Vincent does not seem to be married.
Census 1881 (age 82-83) Ipswich, Suffolk

See Sarah Vincent's notes for transcript of this census. Henry's age given as 83. His occupation is given as shipwright

Marriage Q3 1863 (age 64-65)
The only marriage between a Henry Vincent and a Mary A that I have so far identified, with either an Ipswich or Gt Yarmouth connection, is between Henry Vincent and Mary Ann Ransom in Ipswich in June quarter 1863.

If this is the correct marriage, then Henry would have been about 65 years old, and Mary about 42. This is not impossible, but it does mean that Marian, Walter and Sarah might be the children from an earlier marriage by Henry, or Henry and Mary were together and having children long before they were "officially" married.

It also raises questions about Alice Lucy who could not be the child of Mary who would have been 66 at the time of Alice's birth.

Note on Marriage to Mary A RANSOM (1)

In researching Henry and Mary Ann, there are a number of anomolies which are being further investigated.

If the dates shown are all correct, and I think they are, at the time of their marriage, Henry would have been 65 years old and Mary Ann 43. Not an impossible match, but unlikly?

At the time of the marriage there appears to be 5(?) children already born from this relationship, the oldest being born in 1845, at which time Mary Ann would have been 25 and Henry 47.

Does this suggest that Henry and Mary Ann had been living to gether unmarried and finally tied the knot in 1863, or perhaps the children are not Mary Ann's and Henry had a previous marriage which as yet remains unidentified?

Note on Marriage to Mary A RANSOM (2)

The 1881 census shows the family of Henry Vincent and Mary Ransom living at 19, John Street, St Clement, Ipswich, Suffolk, England. A transcription is available in the notes of their daughter, Sarah Bennett Vincent (RiD 700).

The census includes a 10 year old girl, Margaret Vincent, who is shown as a grand-daughter to Henry and Mary. She is too old to be a daughter of Walter and Maria and the only other potential parent included in this census is Henry and Mary's 35 year old daughter Marian, who may have had a Margaret as an unmarried mother when she was 25? Of course, it could also be the case that Henry and Mary were simply "babysitting" Margaret for a married son who was no longer living at home and can be found elsewhere in the 1881 census.

Further investigation is required, but in the meantime I will leave Margaret "floating" in this note until I can properly position her in the family. Sorry Margaret!
