This census was taken on the 5th April 1891. Within 9 months James had died.

Other Details

At the time of John's marriage to Emma in 1865, John's occupation is stated on the marriage certificate as "Confectioner". At the age of 23, this suggests to me that this was his family business. This needs to be checked.

 

By the time of the 1871 census, 6 years later, John's occupation is shown as "soda water manufacturer" suggesting that he, or his family, had diversified.

 

John only lived for a further 20 years. John's death certificate has not yet been viewed, but as I am unable to find a will for John, I am surmising that his death was perhaps a sudden and unexpected event?
