Howard Street, Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk The following is a transcript of the 1891 census at Howard Street, Gt Yarmouth. The original return has not been examined. James Hunt / Head / Male / 48 / Mineral Water Manufacturer / Norfolk, England Jannie Hunt / Daughter / Female / 21 / Norfolk, England Charles Hunt / Son / Male / 20 / Norfolk, England Gertrude Hunt / Daughter / Female / 16 / Norfolk, England Elizabeth Purle / Servant / Female / 15 / Norfolk, England This census was taken on the 5th April 1891. Within 9 months James had died. The death of Charles' mother in 1877 (when he was 6) and his father in 1891 (when he was 20) perhaps explains why he was taken under the wing of John and Harriet Talbot. |

Residence | between 1897 and 1915 (age 25-44) | Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk |
Through Electoral Registers we are able to find Charles living at 8 Howard
Street, Southtown, Gt Yarmouth between1897 and 1902, when he married Edith. This proerty is shown as a
tenament and it is also interesting to note that Charles is sharing occupation throughout this time with
his brother Alfred James Hunt. Subsiquent research indicates that 8 Howard Street was a shop from which the Hunts conducted their confectioner business. In the 1902/3 Electoral Register, Charles appears at 98 Lichfield Road, Gt Yarmouth, presumably after marrying Edith, but of course she doesn't appear on the register as she is not entitled to vote at that time. he remains at that address until at least 1914/15 which is the last register I have been able to examine, but most likely he is still at that address at the time of his death in 1922. At the same time (1902) Alfred can be found at 56 Lichfield Road where he remains until at least 1908/9. |
