The following is a transcript of an article which appears in 'The Cornishman' Newspaper on Thursday 2nd August 1945.

"Decorated
Among those who attended Buckingham Palace last Friday for the King's Investiture was Lieut-Col Richard Cardew-Evans, who received the MBE (Military Division). Lieut-Col Evans has a large circle of old friens at Cambourne, where before the war he was the manager of Woolworth's Store. He is in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and has rendered meritorious service during his military career, gaining for him well earned rapid promotion. He is a Welshman, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Cardew Evans of Dyffrya, Llanelly, and finished his education at Swansea University College. He is only 31 years of age and is married to his wife, being formerly Miss Cook-Abbott of Ipswich. Col Evans joined the Army as a private at the outbreak of war but soon afterwards he passed as an officer. He was with his regiment at the D-Day landings in France and was in much fighting afterwards. He later was given the important appointment of Assistant-Quartermaster General to the War Office where he is now serving."

The name used in a newspaper article is Richard CARDREW Evans, but I think the newspaper got it wrong. This is supported by the fact that the newspaper also states that he was 31 years old making him born about 1914, wheras we know he was born in April 1913. A bit of sloppy journalism?
