The following is a letter from Edward Wilkinson to his son, Alfred Wilkinson dated February 28th 1919. Edward was in Yeadon and Alfred was in the USA. The transcript follows the exact spelling and grammer.
"Dear Alfred,
I recived your letter on the 27 of Feb and was glad tohear from you and wuld be glad to see you all and would of liked to see your mother a gean
Well Alfred you say you thought that i should be 70 years old but i am 75 on the 25 of June I was 4 years ould then your mother. Well you asked me if i do work i have worked a year and 1 a half in this last five year but i keep very fare in helt. I am the worst in winter. Well you asked me abut the band men thay are all ded but abut three. Bil Gray dide bout 4 years ago. Thay is 2 or 3 of your old playe boyes as asked about you and thay would like to see you but it is such a long way to some well you havt go. Evel ann is about the same as she allways was and i do not know that she as gat mridey i thnk not i have not see her for over 2 yeas as she lives 50 miles from hear. When you write a gean i would like you to send me word how our Albert is geting along as non of you seems to say hany thing about him Well we have had a very wet winter but very little snow. Well about the money you must get a post ofices order payable to me and send it in a letter and then in a week after send me a nother letter that you have send in keas the right one gets lost and so that i shall know that you have send it. Well i think this about all this time i had a letter from Flory a onither a few weeks ago and i wrote back. Give my love to them all and your wife and chrilden and except your self from your Father xxxxxxxxxx
