In my younger days, I am sure that I had heard my father mention a cousin of his called "Freddy Appelman". Although I do not recall ever meeting any of the Appelman family, my research on this line shows that Frederick H Appelman was dad's cousin on my grandmother's side.
What has suprised me however is to discover that my great aunt, Ellen Appelman (nee Bass) died, and presumably lived for a while, in Braintree, Essex, the town where I grew up and still live. I am sure I would have been aware if my grandmother's sister was living (and died) in the town, but it came as a complete suprise to me when I found Ellen Appelman's death registration.
My grandparents lived in Braintree for the last years of their lives, and after my grandfather died in 1979, my grandmother moved in with my parents until she died in 1999, four years after her sister. My dad died in 2004 so unfortunately he is no longer around to ask.
This is all still under investigation, but if any member of the Appelman family is reading this and can shed any light on the circumstances which lead to Ellen dying in Braintree, please do contact me.
